Police name man who died in skiing accident at Turoa

Police have released the name of a 54-year-old man who fell 20m to his death at Turoa Ski Field on Mt Ruapehu yesterday.

He was John Norrie, of Taupo.

Sergeant Michael Craig, of Ohakune police, said Mr Norrie was skiing off-trail and outside boundary pegs when he fell from a bluff about 2pm.

His body was taken to Wanganui Hospital where it would undergo a post-mortem this morning, Mr Craig said in a statement.
