Carrington Park is set to continue its upgrade when a $27,000 piece of equipment is installed - aiming to capture the interest of its intermediate-aged users.
The picture of the soon-to-be blue and red jungle gym is already on display at the park. It will be the third phase in an
upgrade Carterton District Council is funding.
Parks and Recreation team leader Clinton Thompson said no exact date had yet been set for the installation.
He said the council was ready for the structure to be installed and was waiting for Playground Centre, the company who was building the equipment, to finish it. "They are going to install it," Mr Thompson said.
This was more cost-effective and efficient for the council as the company already had such experience.
The council has already spent the rest of its $35,000 budget on soft floor matting to go under the new playground.
Mr Thompson said he hoped the playground would be installed within the next three months, but said it should be in before winter.
The playground emphasises providing exercise for its users, focusing particularly on upper body strength and agility.
Playground Centre consultant Jason Currie said the company had been working with the council for about 20 years, and had been working on this particular project for a couple of years.
Mr Currie didn't have an exact date for the installation either but would like to see it go in during the next month or so.
The council wants to replace, upgrade and restructure the park where it is destined, and is trying to divide the park into compartments.
The first phase was equipment installed for children up to the age of 6, and the council hopes to eventually make that area more secure by adding fencing.
The "skate bowl" was phase two, intended to occupy older children such as those at college.
Mr Thompson said a very popular piece of equipment - known as a mouse/rat wheel or "the rollers" - would definitely be staying put.
