Wellington woman Tonia Joy, injured in the Singapore Airlines plane crash in Taiwan on November 1, is recovering well in a Taiwanese hospital.
Ms Joy, aged 36, injured her back leaping from the plane, which crashed at Chiang Kai-shek Airport after taking off on the wrong runway and slamming into construction equipment on the strip.
Eighty-one people died in the crash.
Ms Joy, who now has a 30cm steel rod in her back, is still in pain but is making good progress, spokeswoman Jeanette Paine said yesterday.
When interviewed immediately after the accident, Ms Joy said she felt a large thump when the plane took off and then crashed. She wrapped a blanket around her head and jumped from the top deck of the plane.
With difficulty, she made it to the nearby grass verge and watched the plane burn.
Ms Joy would not comment further on the accident, Ms Paine said.
"She just wants to recover and take some time out."
Jay Aaron Spack, an Aucklander now living in Western Australia, was also injured in the crash but was discharged from hospital after receiving minor injuries.
