Three people have been injured - one critically - after a two-car crash in rural Waiuku, south of Auckland, this evening.
The crash happened at the intersection of Hermitage, Masters and Allcock Rds just before 5.45pm.
Police arrived at the crash scene around 5.55pm, a police spokeswoman said.
One person, who received life-threatening injuries, was trapped in their car and had to be freed by firefighters.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said a helicopter was at the scene just before 7pm and was taking the critically-injured patient to Middlemore Hospital.
A second person was seriously injured and a third suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to Middlemore Hospital by ambulance, a St John spokeswoman said.
Diversions are in place at the intersection of Masters Rd and Hutchings Rd, the intersection of Masters Rd and Aka Aka Stream Rd, and the intersection of Hutchings Rd and Hermitage Rd.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
