A crash on Auckland's Northern Motorway is causing headaches for motorists in peak-hour traffic.

Two cars were involved in the collision by the Upper Harbour Highway off ramp shortly before 5pm.

The cars were initially blocking the right hand lane.

A Northern Region police spokesperson said the crash had been cleared by 5.30pm.

Traffic was backed up to Northcote Rd and NZTA was warning northbound motorists to expect delays.
