A crash on the Otago Peninsula is causing a major set-back for Dunedin's recovery efforts.
Civil Defence says a car and truck collided on Portobello Rd in Macandrew Bay around 10.30am - blocking the road and cutting off properties across the peninsula.
It says the road had only just opened after being closed due to slips.
St John Ambulance spokesman Robbie Walker says a 35-year-old woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital in serious condition.
Police say the woman was the driver of the car.
The crash is blocking the path of an excavator which was set to clear a major slip at Harwood.
Dunedin Civil Defence Controller Sue Bidrose says it will take hours to clear the crash.
She says one diversion is in place for urgent vehicles only, so residents past the crash site should consider themselves cut-off.
