One dead after Wanaka crash

A person has died after a car crash in Wanaka.

A police spokeswoman told the Herald a person died after the crash on Ballantyne Rd in Wanaka.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were all at the scene of the crash. They were alerted at 5.43pm.

The car had hit a tree, and the driver who died was the sole occupant in the car.

Police are now notifying next of kin, and the serious crash unit is investigating.
