Kaikoura's Fyffe House got the seal of approval when one of the sea mammals jumped onto its roof.
Property manager Ann McCaw said the seal recently jumped off the bank of a new wall by the verandah onto the roof and took in the views before being escorted back to sea.
"It just goes to show there's something a bit different at our properties, so come and visit, " McCaw told Heritage New Zealand's quarterly newsletter.
Built on whale bones Fyffe House is our town's oldest surviving building and link to Kaikoura's whaling past. It is maintained by Heritage New Zealand.
