Man killed by falling tree

A 72-year-old Whangarei man died after he was trapped under a tree in suburban Kamo yesterday.

The man was believed to have died after the tree he was cutting for firewood fell on him about 3pm.

Whangarei police said the man was working alone on the private property, and was experienced at tree felling.

Police and Occupational Safety and Health are investigating.
