A Whangarei fast-food worker was bound and beaten before two masked, knife-wielding robbers made off with a substantial amount of cash.
The attack happened about 7am on Saturday at the KFC outlet in Bank St. The staff-member was tied up and put in a side room while her assailants, thought to be women, took money from the safe.
One is described as 18 to 20, possibly of Maori descent, about 1.65m (5ft 5in), with long brown hair tipped with ginger. She wore a white, long-sleeved fleecy top.
The other offender is thought to be about 1.7m (5ft 7in).
Police want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Norfolk/Bank St area at that time, or of sightings of a grey or dark blue Subaru Legacy in the area. Phone Detective Sergeant Huys on (09) 430-4500.
