Fewer collisions on level crossings

Collisions between trains and road traffic at public level crossings were at a 15-year low last year, says Tranz Rail. There were 24 recorded collisions last year, compared with 33 in 2000, and none in December. Accidents at level crossings were far more common in the early 1990s, with 48 in 1993.
