WAIRARAPA Hospital patients don't have to be bored anymore.
Fernridge School pupils donated two 53cm televisions to the medical and surgical ward yesterday after raising funds through an in-house shop day last month.
"We managed to raise enough money for two TVs instead of one," pupil Sophie Osborne, 10, said.
"I think the
patients will enjoy having the TVs to be watching instead of just sitting there, which is very boring because I've experienced it."
Sophie is proud of her schoolmates' efforts and that they were all able to contribute.
The televisions are the first portable units at the hospital and join 11 fixed screens in use in the isolation and paediatric wards.
Hospital services general manager Anne McLean said the beauty of the televisions is that they are moveable and can be placed in the wards as required.
"It's wonderful that the community is getting behind us and the children have worked very hard.
It's nice to have the support of the schools," she said.
Fernridge School originally fundraised for a television to make one of their hospital-bound teachers more comfortable and planned to pass the unit on upon her return home.
