Devonport Wharf managers say they will attend to safety concerns that caused the closure of a restaurant on Friday.
North Shore City Council ordered some areas of the restaurant and shopping complex to be closed to the public until further notice because of rusted handrails and stair platforms.
The fire escape stairway
that caused the closure of the Torpedo Bay Restaurant and Bar is being replaced, says Sean Thompson of the Retail Management Group.
Walkway safety rails will also be repaired with any other items specified in an engineer's report due later in the week.
Stuart Robertson, who is trustee for lease-owners Devonport Wharf Trust, said the council's demand for repairs was unfortunate in view of the planning that was under way to make the wharf a "vital part of Auckland."
He said the trust, which took over the wharf lease last year, had been looking at replacing railings as part of overall redevelopment. But planning was not far enough advanced to decide the type of replacement barriers.
