Child porn trader granted home detention

A man convicted of trading child pornography has been granted home detention despite opposition from the Department of Internal Affairs and anti-pornography groups.

Yesterday, the Parole Board said Stephen Karl Folster, 33, of Blenheim, who traded images of young children being raped and abused, was being permitted to serve his eight-month imprisonment at home.

Folster was convicted on 30 charges of collecting and distributing pictures via the internet of children being raped and abused.

The board imposed stringent conditions on Mr Folster's access to computer equipment and required his attendance at a Sex Offender Treatment Programme.
