A schoolboy was killed today when a wheel came off a passing car and hit him outside Ngahinapouri School, west of Te Awamutu.
Logan Patterson, aged 10, of Ngahinapouri, died at the scene.
Police said the left wheel of the car fell off and hit the boy as he walked to school
about 7.40 am.
Police are investigating the accident.
Another person died in a separate accident in the Waikato, when two trucks and two cars collided on State Highway One north of Huntly.
One person was killed and others were injured in the accident, at about 12.00 pm.
Police had blocked both the north and southbound lanes of the highway but were expected to open the road about 3.00 pm.
Details of the crash are sketchy but is believed that the driver of one of the trucks was killed after being hit by a car.
