Auckland motorway lanes reopened after fatal crash

Police have reopened southbound lanes on Auckland's Southern Motorway after a man died in a car accident this morning.

The man died when the car he was driving smashed into the centre barrier at 8.50am.

Inspector David Robertson said after contact the car rolled fives times across the southbound lanes. No other cars were involved in the incident.

He said a passenger was flung from the car and has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic backlogs are clearing although a short further delay has been caused by another, minor, four-car crash at the Te Koma St off ramp requiring the closure of lanes two and three to remove vehicles.
