A woman charged with eight rural arsons, including the burning of the historic Hakatere Marae near Ashburton last month, has abandoned her bid to be released on bail.
A bail application for Christine Irene Akkerman, 26, from Killinchy, near Leeston, was to be heard yesterday in the Christchurch District Court.
But defence counsel Elizabeth Bulger told Judge Michael Green it would not proceed.
Ms Bulger asked for Akkerman to be remanded for a week, to appear on the same day as her brother.
Nathan Henry Akkerman, 22, and his sister are charged with seven other arsons .
They entered no plea in the district court on June 26 and were remanded in custody.
