Adventure firm wired to resume rides after accident

Queenstown adventure tourism operator Fly By Wire is applying to restart rides following a three-month shutdown after a Swedish tourist was injured.

Occupational Safety and Health shut down the company's self-powered, rocket-shaped plane, which is suspended on wires, when the tourist suffered arm fractures in the accident on November 15.

The company plans to apply to OSH for recertification this week. An engineer has recommended Fly By Wire use a bigger, stronger winch with added safety features.
