Sarah Ferguson’s sweet tribute on social media took a turn when followers quickly pointed out a blunder.
The Duchess of York, 64, seemingly made an awkward mistake in her tribute to the late Queen and her “dear friend” Elizabeth II.
According to news.com.au, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, target="_blank">Prince Andrew’s wife from 1986 to 1996, paid tribute to the late monarch on Sunday, April 21, on Instagram.
Her caption read, “Today we are remembering Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on what would have been her 97th birthday.
“Thank you for all that you have taught us, for being a steadfast leader and dear friend. You are sorely missed.”
Others defended the Duchess, saying, “To all those correcting Sarah Ferguson, I’m sure she knows exactly how old HM Queen Elizabeth would have been. It can only be a typo.”
The late monarch died on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral. She was 96 and had old age listed as her official cause of death.
Despite Ferguson’s separation from her son, Prince Andrew, the Queen reportedly shared a good friendship with her daughter-in-law.

The Duchess and Prince Andrew were even tasked with the care of the Queen’s corgis after the monarch’s death.
Sarah recalled her final conversation with her former mother-in-law, “It’s the last thing that the Queen said to me: ‘Just be yourself, Sarah’.
“And she saw it. She just got so annoyed when I wasn’t being myself. And that’s probably when I got into all the pickles. But now I am myself, and I’m just so lucky to be able to be myself.”
In a March 23 interview with People, the Duchess of York spoke highly of the monarch.
“She was so brilliant at putting you at ease. She had the most incredible faith of any single person I’ve ever met.
“She just knew what to do. She knew how to make people feel good. She never took it on board as about her.”
