Revamped Dick Smith promises improved range

The executive director of the revamped Dick Smith website said New Zealanders can expect the product range to expand.

The website relaunched this week, a month earlier than expected, after the domain and customer base was purchased by Australian online retailer Kogan.com.

Executive director David Shafer said Dick Smith's recent history had been "disappointing" and the website was relaunched as a show of good faith.

"We wanted to begin rebuilding that trust by providing a great shopping experience as soon as possible."

Currently the Australian version of the site features deals like a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge being about A$40 cheaper than average at A$819, but the New Zealand site had a noticeably limited range of stock.

Shafer said the site would continue to build product range.

The bargains currently on offer on the New Zealand site include Breville appliances up to $70 cheaper than the recommended retail price.

You can get a Lavazza Minu coffee capsule machine for $88, or $90 under the recommended retail price.

"New Zealand customers can expect to see an improved range," Shafer said.

Asked whether gift vouchers purchased from Dick Smith would be honoured on the new websiete, Shafer wouldn't answer.

He answered: "If you purchased an item from Dick Smith prior to 3 May 2016, it is important to note the business with which you transacted is different to the business trading under Dick Smith from 4 May 2016 onward."

This would suggest the vouchers won't be honoured.

However, Shafer said the company is "here to serve customers" and invited comments and suggestions for improvements.
