Whipping for Brunei overstayers

A Brunei court has sentenced two men from India and Pakistan who overstayed their visas to whipping - the first foreigners convicted under new rules to stop migrant workers from settling illegally in the oil-rich Southeast Asian country.

Brunei's immigration authorities have warned that from June 12, caning would be the mandatory punishment for people caught overstaying their visas by 90 days or more.
