APIA - More than 4000 Samoans will log off Facebook and the internet for 15 minutes today in what has been called 'A Moment of Silence' to commemorate the anniversary of the tsunami that struck Samoa last year.
A total of 4538 Facebook users have committed to logging off not just Facebook but the internet at 9am (8am September 30) Samoan time.
The Facebook page titled 'A Moment of Silence' was created by Fa'afeumalo Amisone Guthrie, a Samoan who asked users to log off the internet to pay tribute to the victims of the tsunami.
"Log off, to remember our Island and our people that were affected...let the world know that on the Island or off the Island we are always connected..We want the whole world to hear our Silence," Faáfeumalo posted yesterday.
Close to 10,000 users were invited to participate in the Facebook moment of silence.
Many have posted messages of solidarity and remembrance on the page.
Maria Tagiilima posted today: "Am proud of the resilience of my people ... Samoa, you are in our thoughts and prayers always!"
Dereon Jakari Tagaloa added: "A day that will never be forgotten!"
