A Texas jury deliberated for just 41 minutes yesterday before finding convicted killer Johnny Paul Penry competent to stand trial and face a possible death sentence, despite his being so retarded he still believes in Santa Claus.
Penry, 45, will go on trial on April 29 to determine his sentencefor the 1979 rape and murder of Pamela Carpenter, 22. He has twice received a death sentence for the crime, but the United States Supreme Court threw both sentences out hours before his scheduled execution.
