A grey spherical orb spotted on a Google Earth image taken from an area near New York is sending believers in extraterrestrial life into a tailspin as they try to figure out what the UFO could be.
A YouTube video posted this week titled "Sphere UFO Found on Google Earth Map" says the sphere has been spotted in an image taken just above Lake George.
"Many past UFO reports describe round sphere UFOs and it does seem to be the most common shape of UFOs around the world," a female robotic voice narrating the video says.
There are a couple of issues with the video, however.
To start with, the co-ordinates in the video do not match the location shown on Google Earth.
According to the short clip, the orb was spotted near Shelving Rock Mountain. However, Google Earth shows those co-ordinates as being at Black Mountain.
"This is clearly fake," a commenter wrote.
Additionally, the "orb" resembles a logo very commonly found when using Google Earth features on Android.
"Dumbasses out there… That's a Google photosphere logo… Google it," another YouTube user said.
"Google Photosphere logo found on Google Earth. Wow. Well done," someone else said.
Google Photo Sphere is a 360-degree panorama feature Google has added to Android.
The orb in the image does look exactly like the logo.
