Islamic scarf causes problem for Aussie soccer player

An Australian soccer referee may face disciplinary action for telling one of Victoria's most promising young women players she could not play unless she removed her Islamic scarf.

Afifa Saad plays for South Melbourne and always wears her scarf and long track pants, in accordance with her religion.

But on Sunday, the referee told her she had to remove her scarf or she couldn't play. Afifa refused and the game was postponed. The Victorian Soccer Federation has now launched an investigation.
