TV period drama expert John Hawkesworth, the producer of the television period drama Upstairs Downstairs, has died in England at the age of 82 after a short illness.
He helped to write many early episodes of the drama, which was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic during the early 1970s.
His production work on the series strengthened his reputation for meticulous attention to detail. He also produced the TV series The Duchess of Duke Street, another period drama.
