Gunmen fire on family killing 7 in Thailand

Gunmen opened fired with assault rifles at a family reunion in southern Thailand, killing at least seven people and injuring 11 in what may have been part of a private feud.

Two unidentified men armed with M-16 rifles launched the attack at the party in Phaphayom, a village in Pattalung province, 690km south of Bangkok, police Colonel Thawee Onkong said.

Six people were fatally shot at the scene and another died later in hospital. Another 11 people at the party were wounded.

"The initial investigation found that the killing was motivated by a personal feud," Thawee said.

Thai families traditionally gather for annual reunions in March and April.
