Firemen killed in France bush fire

Three firemen were killed on the French Riviera as nearly 1000 firefighters battled fierce brush blazes fanned by wind gusts on the scorched Mediterranean coast.

All three men were on a truck cut off by the flames in the Maures hills.

They were burned alive as three other firemen on a second truck managed to escape.

Several new blazes erupted yesterday as firefighters fought the flames on two main fronts.

Their efforts were hampered by high winds whipping up the blazes, clocked at up to 30 miles an hour.
