Ebola death toll rises in Uganda

The Ugandan death toll from the Ebola virus has risen to 149 after four more people died in the northern town of Gulu, where the outbreak started nearly three months ago.

The health ministry said 29 suspected Ebola patients were still in hospital.

Among the dead were 10 nurses who treated Ebola virus victims in Gulu, said Dr Alex Opio, assistant commissioner for national disease control.

"Everything possible is being done to contain the epidemic," he said. People in affected areas have been told to avoid cultural activities, including lingering at burial sites, to reduce the chances of contracting the virus.
