Earliest sign of fire discovered

Humans may have learned to use fire almost 800,000 years ago, pushing back this pivotal moment in history by more than half a million years, say Israeli scientists.

Archaeologists have discovered what are believed to be remains of the first known campfires in northern Israel. They found burned seeds and fragments of wood and flint dating back 790,000 years. The findings were reported in the journal Science.
