Kazakhstan cyclist Andrei Kivilev was in a coma last night following a fall in the second stage of the Paris-Nice race.
Kivilev was not wearing a helmet when he fell 40km from the finish of the 182.5km stage.
His face took the full impact of the crash and he is also thought to have broken ribs.
Italian Davide Rebellin took the overall lead when he won the second stage.
