Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's illness while attending the September 11 ceremony in New York drew reactions from commentators, journalists and activists.

Clinton left about 90 minutes into the ground zero ceremony after feeling "overheated," her campaign said. Video showed her knees buckling as three people helped the 68-year-old Democrat into a van in the muggy heat. Later in the day, she said she was "feeling great" as she walked to a vehicle.

Donald Trump, who has repeatedly questioned whether Clinton is physically fit to be president, was also at the ceremony for a time and left after she did. Asked about the incident, the Republican nominee said only: "I don't know anything about it".

Several hours later, Clinton's campaign revealed that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and advised to rest.

A selection of comments on Twitter:

Every candidate I have ever worked for has gotten sick on the trail and worked through it because you can't take days off in a close race

This may be most intense stretch of campaign: 3 debates, non-top schedule, 5 flights a day, after year on trail. Not great time to get sick

Today's key: Fairly or not, HRC scare lets Trump argue that physical fitness more impt than temperamental fitness https://t.co/aJH1S7nLJ5

Leaving aside the valid issue of her health, Clinton disaster today speaks to her penchant for secrecy & her judgment in going to ceremony

— Toby Harnden (@tobyharnden) September 11, 2016

The problem with Hillary only giving details after the public sees what is going on is that people always believe there's more to the story.

“Look, she has pneumonia. She got dehydrated.” It’s an explanation that makes sense. And woulda made more sense being announced 7 hours ago.
