Australian economy stable

Australia's latest job figures reveal a soft labour market but a stable economy. Unemployment figures released yesterday remained static at 6.7 per cent despite 16,500 full-time jobs disappearing last month.

This came on top of building activity figures that showed the boom in the housing sector continuing.

The only worrying figures were international merchandise imports which were down more than 12 per cent.
