Artificial limb a damning clue

A one-legged London robber who left his artificial limb at the scene of a crime was jailed for three years yesterday.

Eric Gardner, 41, left the damning evidence after a struggle with a shopkeeper when grabbing his cash takings.

Gardner, a Dagenham drug addict, admitted robbery.

An appeal in the local press resulted in Gardner realising the game was up and handing himself into police.
