Diplomats tell us what Kiwis need to know about their homeland.
The thing you probably know about my country is: A bit about Mexican food, tequila and mariachis.
But the thing you really should know is: The rich history and culture.
Over there, we think Kiwis are: Nature and sports lovers.
On a longer visit, you should: Visit pyramids, beaches and colonial cities and magic towns.
Our national sport is: Soccer, but boxing and diving are also important.
The one food thing you really should try is: "Mole" — a mix of chillies, chocolate and spices served over chicken, together with rice and, of course, beans!
Make sure you avoid: Tap water, unless you are prepared for Montezuma's revenge.
The weather is: Wonderful, variable depending on which part of the country you are visiting, but always pleasant.
A handy phrase you should know is: "Orale": A word meaning almost anything you would like it to mean: "OK! I agree with you! Come on! Bring it on! Yes! Hurry Up! That's amazing!" Etc, etc...
