What I Pack: Tony Bish

Do you travel light or heavy?

Light on the way there, as I always seem to end up having to lug my bags for miles, and heavy on the way back, 'cos I always load up on some vinous goodies to carry home!

Cattle or first class?

Cattle mostly, although I have had the pleasure of Premium Economy recently. Not bad, I need the leg room!

What type of suitcase do you carry?

Garish red and yellow so I can find it easy on the carousel and get the hell out of the airport asap.

What's always in your hand luggage?

Chapstick, those air con systems in planes are havoc on my outsized lips.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?

Some stunning seashells from Langkawi Island in Malaysia. Surprisingly they were OK with Customs. They remind me of a very special holiday with my lovely wife Karryn.

Favourite or most exciting airport to land in?

Napier. It's just so good to get home. Other end destination would be the South Pacific islands. Paradise is on earth, and only three hours away!

Most memorable trip?

Europe in my twenties. I backpacked and hitch-hiked around France, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Holland. So many unique experiences with people and cultures, and being on my own forced me to engage with everyone, everywhere I went.

Best packing tip?

Don't stress it. Just make sure you have that vital plastic card and passport. Anything else can be easily sorted.

What do you do while on the plane?

Bloody Marys, movies, then read with headphones; on to some cool French house music till I fall asleep.
