When they're tired of the beach and the pool, here's where to take them.

1 Ziplining

Fly over rivers, waterfalls and through the Fijian jungle on a ziplining adventure. It's like a flying fox on steroids so the kids are bound to have a ball and burn off a bit of energy while they're at it. There are several ziplining opportunities, with Zip Fiji in Nadi taking the title of the largest zipline in the country, available for kids aged 6 and over (subject to height and weight restrictions). Zip Fiji also has an operation in Pacific Harbour and Sleeping Giant Zipline Fiji can be found in a jungle reserve 35 minutes from Nadi.

2 Navala Village

Visiting a village is a great way to get to know the locals — there are always kids around and they're usually keen to involve visitors in their games. To really step back in time, head to Navala Village in the Ba Highlands of northern-central Viti Levu, where residents still live in traditional thatched roof bures. Tour the village and school, partake in a kava ceremony and cool off in the river — just remember to bring a gift of kava root for the chief.

3 Kula Eco Park

If your holiday is based on the Coral Coast, this is an easy outing that the kids will love. Kula Eco Park showcases magnificent local wildlife, with a focus on birds and reptiles. It is set among native forest and wooden walkways let you get right into the heart of it. There's even an opportunity to get up close with some of the residents — kids can get their photo taken holding an iguana or a baby boa, if they're brave.
