Wellington's Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, and Blenheim's Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre have topped TripAdvisor's 2015 Travellers' Choice Awards for the best museums in the South Pacific.

Te Papa also came in at No 25 in the global list, and beat the likes of Melbourne's National Gallery of Victoria and Tasmania's MONA on the South Pacific top 10.

New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art was named the world's best museum.

The awards, which are based on the global travel website's millions of user reviews, also named the top 25 museums in the world, alongside dedicated lists for regions.

Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for museums around the world, gathered over a 12-month period.
