Greg Murphy shares his most memorable holiday moments.
What was your greatest holiday?
This summer in Taupo. I reckon it was the best summer break I've ever had. Just enjoyed spending time with the family, getting out on the water and, of course, the weather was unbelievable.
And the worst?
Fiji back in 2010. I ruptured a disc in my back, which required surgery. I nearly passed out on the plane back to Melbourne because of the pain. Memorable for all the wrong reasons.
If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?
It could be anything really, but I'm not the kind of person to be lying around by the pool all day reading a book. I need to be doing something. I do a huge amount of wakeboarding and wakesurfing.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
Queenstown is my kind of place. It's the adventure capital of NZ and maybe one of the best in the world. I love snowboarding, mountainbiking, water sports and anything that gets the adrenalin pumping. No matter what time of the year, you can't be bored. And now, just down the road in Cromwell, is the Highlands Motorsport Park, which is heaven for anyone that likes cars.
How about for a dream holiday internationally?
New York. Such a vibrant place with so many different parts to explore. You could easily spend a few weeks in New York and do something different every day.
What's the dumbest thing you've done when travelling?
Taken the rental car keys with me on the plane.
Complete this sentence: I can't travel without ...
... my passport, that's a given.
Favourite airport at which to land?
Any airport that I haven't been to before.
What's the next trip you've got planned?
No holidays planned, but I'll be spending plenty of time at airports and on planes this year travelling between New Zealand and Australia while doing work for V8 Supercars and #SKY Speed.
Greg Murphy co-hosts #SKY Speed with Stephen McIvor, Wednesdays, Sky Sport 1, 9.30pm.
