My holidays: Melodie Robinson

Melodie Robinson would love to travel to Italy.

What was your greatest holiday?

Any holiday I've had with my family has been awesome, the best is probably the most recent which was at Taupo Bay Lodge in Taupo Bay, because it was eight days of beautiful weather, a fantastic beach which was safe for the kids, some of my best mates with their kids, and a cooking competition which ended up in a wrestling match between myself and one of my besties.

And the worst?

One summer in Manly a very long time ago, the guy I was seeing refused to go anywhere and wanted to watch test cricket all day when there was an amazing beach right next to us and sunshine. He ended up breaking up with me, leaving in a huff and I had the rest of the holiday by myself. I made a lot of new friends.

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?

Outdoors with the kids, by the pool, trying to get them tired so my husband and I can put them into bed early and get some quality time.

If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?

Eagles Nest in Russell, it's amazing.

How about for a dream holiday internationally?

I've never been to Italy and I'd like to go there for the shopping, the history, the food and the wine.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?

Usually I'm overseas for work, it's pretty intense with not a lot of time to relax. So a couple of times I've made the error of celebrating the end of the working tour with a late night and then travelling back with a hangover. Don't do it!

What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?

Grab a local to take you out and show you around.

What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling?

Lobster linguine in the Bronx.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?

A pair of Jimmy Choos, I'm not allowed to buy things like that anymore.

Favourite airport to land at?

Paris.

What's the next trip you've got planned?

I'm going to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. It's work but it'll still be great.
