1. SYDNEY

Sydney is a desired holiday destination. Double Bay offers a vibrant cafe society and fashion boutiques; Paddington is home to designer stores; and for night life or dining try Darlinghurst, Potts Point or Surrey Hills. The Hilton hotel offers sleek, contemporary designer furnished rooms.

2. MELBOURNE

Melbourne has magnificent street scapes, glorious parks, theatres, night life, cosmopolitan cuisine, designer boutiques and superb hotels. Perth offers trendy boutiques, glamorous night life, outstanding restaurants and laid-back lifestyle. Sail on the Swan River, discover wineries, explore the historic seaport of Fremantle, take a ferry to Rottnest Island, wander through Kings Park, or cycle along the river. Seashells Resort Mandurah is on the beach at Comet Bay, 45 minutes drive south of Perth.

5. GOLD COAST

Just 30km south of Brisbane, the Gold Coast has many attractions, great value accommodation, sunny climate, surf beaches and rainforests. Combine a beach holiday with the thrills of a theme park, and explore the night life. Freshwater Point Resort is a 10-minute walk from Broadbeach.

6. SUNSHINE COAST

From the beaches to the rainforest, the Sunshine Coast is a gorgeous destination. With balmy weather, amazing restaurants, boutique shopping and endless beaches, the Mantra Mooloolaba Beach is a four-star resort on the trendy Esplanade.

7. CAIRNS

This is the perfect base in tropical North Queensland. Try the Trinity Bay swimming pool in the city, mountain bike in the rainforest, or snorkel and scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef. The Hilton Cairns overlooks the Trinity Inlet and marina.

8. PORT DOUGLAS

The picturesque village of Port Douglas, an hour's drive north of Cairns, is the perfect launching pad to swim, dive or snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. Peppers Beach Club Port Douglas is near Four Mile Beach.

9. PHUKET

Thailand's largest tropical island, with spectacular scenery and warm blue seas, has perfect beaches and great value accommodation. Patong, the central tourist beach, has an energetic nightlife. 13. KOH SAMUI

Now one of Thailand's most popular island retreats, Koh Samui about 700km south of Bangkok, still retains a casual beach culture. A lively nightlife has emerged, along with a great choice of restaurants and shopping. Bandara Resort and Spa - away from the bustle - has a range of rooms and cottages.

14. MALDIVES

The Maldives boast pristine tropical islands with swaying palm trees, pure white beaches and brilliant turquoise water. 18. WANAKA

Lake Wanaka is the gateway to Mt Aspiring National Park. The area itself the home to some of New Zealand's best skiing and snowboarding. 19. WELLINGTON

Wellington is well-known for Te Papa, the cafe scene, its local designers and the nightlife. It is also just one-hour drive from the wineries of Martinborough and a four-hour ferry trip from Picton. Museum Hotel is located in the heart of Wellington's thriving city opposite Te Papa.

20. WAIHEKE ISLAND

Waiheke Island is 30 minutes by boat from Auckland's Viaduct Basin, offering an escape from the city with a high standard of service and accommodation. You can visit one vineyards on the island or wander along the beaches. The Boatshed boutique lodge above Little Oneroa Beach is five minutes from the village.

21. DENARAU ISLAND

Connected to the mainland by a causeway, Fiji's Denarau Island has a mix of luxury resorts and affordable accommodation. There is an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, beaches, watersport activities and restaurants. The Radisson Resort Fiji with 270 rooms is opening on August 1.
