The England Rugby Christmas-themed jersey will set you back $72.

The England Rugby Christmas-themed jersey will set you back $72.

Struggling to find a Christmas present for a loved one who is a big fan of sports? Cameron McMillan scans the web for the gifts to avoid.

NFL Ugly Sweaters

At least the NFL own it and label the product line as Ugly Sweaters, because these are certainly that. This Miami Dolphins one is up there as one of the worst.

But the player specific ones are just as horrible.

There are plenty of NFL fans in New Zealand but not many would be committed to wear one of these, especially during summer.

The AFL have also got in the act for those Richmond Tigers fans in your family.

Price: Ranges from $82 to $105.

England Santa Suit Christmas Jumper

I was just going to put the England Rugby World Cup jersey here because that would be an embarrassing enough Christmas gift but this is worse...only just.

It's complete with the official England Rugby logo, four big buttons and a belt. Hopefully Eddie Jones' family get him one.

If you don't like that then check out the reindeer version. Thankfully they didn't portray Santa on a Sweet Chariot.

Price: $72

West Bromwich Albion pegs

First off, buying pegs as a Christmas present is one of the worst ideas. It's up there with selling team branded pegs.

For the diehard WBA fans and clothesline enthusiasts though, these are ideal. Also the logo is so small it's really hard to differentiate these from non-offical West Bromwich Albion pegs, aka just blue and white pegs.

Philadelphia 76ers Tree Topper

The 76ers are an embarrassment right now after opening the NBA season with a record 19 straight defeats. They finally broke that run against the Lakers on Wednesday so now is probably the best time to put this 76ers branded star on top of your Christmas tree.

I love how the rest of the tree is devoid of any other decorations. It's those sort of fundamentals that the 76ers also lack on the court. Very fitting.

Price: $28

Swansea perfume

Over in the Gifts for Her section on the Swansea Football Club merchandise store let's maybe ignore the fact there is a generic oven glove in the women's section and focus on the Swans Ladies Perfume. 15 quid for a perfume branded in the best club team out of Wales. Sounds like a good deal.

You'll have to purchase without smelling the perfume which is a risk - could be the tears of Jonjo Shelvey or the sweat of mascot Cyril the Swan.
