Tennis: Hingis' future in doubt

Former world No 1 Martina Hingis may have to quit tennis because of osteoarthritis. The 21-year-old is being treated in a Zurich clinic for pain in the joints of her left foot, left knee and left hip. Her doctor, Heinz Buhlmann, said: "We cannot yet say how sensible it would be for her to continue her career or whether to end it." Hingis has won five Grand Slam titles since turning professional in 1994, but has not won one since the Australian Open in January 1999.
