Tennis: $1m payday for Sharapova

Teenager Maria Sharapova capped her stunning tennis year by overcoming an injured Serena Williams 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the final of the season-ending WTA Tour Championships in Los Angeles yesterday.

The victory earned her $US1 million ($1.44 million). Sharapova now moves to a career-high No 4 in the world rankings.
