Soccer: Champions League finals venue set

Next year's Champions League football final will be held in the west German city of Gelsenkirchen, and the Uefa Cup final will be played in Gothenburg.

With a capacity of 54,100, the Arena AufSchalke, in the Ruhr industrial area, is one of Europe's most modern venues and the home to Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04.

The last Uefa club competition in Germany was the 2001 Uefa Cup final in nearby Dortmund, when Liverpool FC beat Alaves 5-4.

The Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg, with a 43,000 capacity, has staged two other European competition finals - the 1983 European Cup Winners Cup final, when Aberdeen beat Real Madrid 2-1, and the same competition in 1990, when Sampdoria beat Anderlecht 2-0.
