Australia scored one of the best wins in their international soccer history when they defeated a revamped French side 1-0 in the Confederations Cup in South Korea last night.
France, the world and European champions, finished the match with 10 men after having skipper Frank Lebouef sent off for a bad tackle on Clayton Zane 15 minutes from time.
The only goal came from Zane after 59 minutes following France's failure to clear a Josip Skoko free-kick.
The FIFA Confederations Cup 2001 is a warm-up for next year's world cup. Eight countries - Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, France, Cameroon, Mexico and Brazil, are competing.
Australia beat Mexico in their first match of the tournament.
