Snooker: Australian takes out world No 9 at world champs

Australian Quinten Hann produced the shock of the world snooker championships so far by knocking out world No 9 Paul Hunter, of England, in Sheffield yesterday.

Hann, a first-round loser in two previous visits to the Crucible, edged to a 10-9 win after coming back from 6-3 down at the resumption of play.

He reeled off three frames in a row to level and went in front for the first time at 8-7.

Hann extended his lead before Hunter made breaks of 101 and 92 to force a last-frame decider, but the Australian held his nerve to win.
