There was triumph mixed with disappointment for the New Zealand sevens side at the Emirates London tournament this morning (NZT).
New Zealand was ousted from the tournament at the semifinal stage 35-26 by South Africa.
South Africa posted 35 unanswered points before the kiwis even replied, early in the second half.
South Africa's greater pace was telling, outstriding the kiwis on numerous occasions throughout the match.
That ended a run of four straight tournament wins for the Gordon Tietjens-coached team, excluding the loss in the World Cup which was not part of the world series.
On the other hand, New Zealand had already done enough to win the world series for a sixth straight year after winning their quarterfinal against France.
