Scots eye Samoa test to boost flagging fortunes

A depleted Scotland rugby squad are pinning their hopes on a successful whistle-stop New Zealand trip to boost confidence for their remaining internationals this season.

They face Samoa tonight in Wellington before heading back to Australia tomorrow for two tests against the Wallabies.

Captain Scott Murray has earmarked a victory against Samoa as crucial to help lift his struggling team.

Scotland recorded their first win this season over New South Wales Country on Wednesday night after suffering seven consecutive losses, starting with the Six Nations.

The losing streak was extended against Queensland last week.

Now they face a Samoan side who have their best chance to topple the Scots for the first time in five tests.

Both teams have a similar mix of experience and youth, and have also expressed a willingness to play expansive rugby.
