Rugby: Legend becomes Canterbury RFU vice president

Former All Black and Canterbury provincial representative Denis Young has been appointed vice president of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union.

Mr Young, who played 61 games for the All Blacks, including 22 test matches, moves into the position vacated by former All Black captain Tane Norton.

Mr Norton was appointed vice president of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union at the national union's AGM last month.

"We are delighted for Tane to be elected NZRFU vice president by the national members," said CRFU chairman Mike Eagle.

"In replacing Tane, the board sought someone with similar mana and experience. Denis comfortably fits this role, and will be a great asset and assistant to our president Bill Bush."

Mr Young played 132 first class games for Canterbury in the 1950s and 60s.
